Greater In Tune IOW - Quay Arts Galley - Isle Of Wight - 07 June - 02 Aug 2025

Greater In Tune is a compelling collection of photographic portraits celebrating pioneers and torchbearers across funk, soul, R&B, hip-hop, Afrobeat, Afrobeats, and Dancehall — now expanded with the addition of contemporary icons including Sean Paul, Koffee, Davido, and Wizkid. Captured over a decade by Alexis Chabala, this series honours the artistry, individuality, and cultural impact of figures such as Bill Withers, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Roy Ayers, Erykah Badu, Anderson .Paak, Kelis, George Clinton, and many more.

Presented as part of Quay Arts’ 2025 programme and timed to coincide with the Isle of Wight Festival, the exhibition brings powerful imagery and untold stories to the Island. These portraits are intimate, raw, and resonant—offering not only visual impact but a wider commentary on influence, identity, and legacy in Black musical culture.

This installation features over 50 framed works alongside a large-scale vinyl mural comprised of more than 100 portraits, designed to immerse visitors in the rich creative worlds of these musical icons. It marks the latest evolution of Chabala’s ongoing project exploring how music shapes, empowers, and defines generations.
